“St. Louis County commissioners voted 4-3 today to oppose an amendment to the Minnesota Constitution that would ban gay marriage,” reports the Duluth News Tribune.
“In many of the unorganized townships, there is no public place to vote” that complies with all rules and regulations for election access, Don Dicklich, St. Louis County auditor, tells the Duluth News Tribune. “It will cost hundreds of thousands of dollars just to build accessible polling locations … unless we are able to ask them to drive a long way to another township that has a polling place. In which case, how many people simply won’t bother to vote?”
Dicklich estimates that it Voter ID passes, it would cost St. Louis Co. $500,000 to $1 million for the 2014 election cycle.
