Best of: Photos of the 2012 Duluth flood

In 2012 10″ of rain fell on saturated ground in Duluth and the surrounding communities. The forecast called for 2-4″ of rain. While a flash flood watch was issued, the scope of flooding and subsequent damage caught many by surprise.

Retired UMD professor raises eyebrows with school shooting theory

Retired Duluth Prof. spreads conspiracy theories and embarrasses the city, university. His newest theory is that the Newton shooting was organized by the government.

“A retired University of Minnesota Duluth professor known for his conspiracy theories on John F. Kennedy’s assassination, the 9/11 attacks and the Paul Wellstone plane crash has found himself in the news again — this time for claiming the U.S. government was involved in the Newtown, Conn., school shootings,” via Duluth News Tribune.

DNT: In unsolved Obama effigy case, surely someone must have seen something

“Three weeks ago today, someone — or a group of someones — put a President Obama mask over the face of what has been described as a scarecrow, wrapped a rope around the scarecrow’s neck and threw the rope over the top of a billboard across from Miller Hill Mall.

“Along one of Duluth’s busiest corridors, our president was hung in effigy,” via Duluth News Tribune.

“For seven years, HealthPartners has been operating its data warehouse in the Harbor Center in downtown Duluth. And quietly growing.

St. Louis Co. auditor warns of costs, consequences of Voter ID

“In many of the unorganized townships, there is no public place to vote” that complies with all rules and regulations for election access, Don Dicklich, St. Louis County auditor, tells the Duluth News Tribune. “It will cost hundreds of thousands of dollars just to build accessible polling locations … unless we are able to ask them to drive a long way to another township that has a polling place. In which case, how many people simply won’t bother to vote?”

Dicklich estimates that it Voter ID passes, it would cost St. Louis Co. $500,000 to $1 million for the 2014 election cycle.
